Line Art: [First Attempt - Irving - Line]

So here's the colored version of my first attempt at Ricardo Irving of Resident Evil 5. If you looked at the line art you'll notice that, indeed, the horrible chibis, glow, and population have been removed. Now, on his own, I'm not quite sure what it is that he's doing; maybe he just decided that he's the man for some awesome job? What do you guys think he's doing now?

There are SO many problems with this. First of all the proportions of his body parts are off. His arms and legs seem a little too long and I think his head might actually be a little too small. The coloring is WAY off too. As you may have noticed the man's skin is yellow. YELLOW. He looks like a freaking character from The Simpsons now! Next time I'll be sure to watch out for that. Also, I didn't think to use a good reference for this and couldn't quite get that beige color of his pants... so I made them blue. There are so many more things wrong with this but I'm not bothering to list them at the moment.

Critique is encouraged so please help me out here guys. I need suggestions on how to improve on everything [drawing, coloring, shading, etc]. Any suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated.

His head size is fine and so are his legs~ You have a good shape for the torso (Shoulders to mid thigh) - It's not super curvy not bulky. The arms are a bit long, but not too much, you could easily leave them as they are as part of your style, or shorten the biceps and forearms a TAD, and it'd be fine! (I always draw a circle with the top of the head being the top of the shape, and if the elbows hit roughly the lines of the circle they should be the right length! :3)

I like the coloring a lot, and depending what coloring soft ware you use, you could always shag with the Hue and such to get the right skin tone :D <333

You've improved TONS tho, I gotta say! <3 I like your facial style~ <333

Thank you so much for your observations and suggestions!

That circle thing you showed me is really interesting. I had never seen it before but I can't wait to give it a try! <3 I'll probably attempt shorter arms for my next image to see how I like them, and it would be a great chance to test the circle out. Only problem is the next person I plan to draw is a very tiny man. xD Then again there's my RP character... We shall see.

The coloring was madness for me. First of all I don't even know how to use my programs all that well and secondly it took forever. I'll be more careful and look into the hues and such next time. :3

Thank you very much for the compliment! It's good to hear.

Well, I'm not saying that you need to be careful with your hues, but if you notice that after coloring it they're a bit off, you can shag around with them, I generally do XD

No problemo!! <333

But if I do that wouldn't I have to color the same part all over again? xD

I guess I'd do it if I was really passionate about the image.

I really like it! The pose is decent and the proportions and height don't look bad at all. The arms are a bit too long, but that's a simple enough correction. I typically draw mine too short, so we're opposite with our problems! xD The fingers on the hand around his hip should be flexed more around where's he's holding to give a bit of depth. ^^

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

A friend of mine already mentioned the arms in her comment and actually showed me a neat little trick involving a circle to check their length. I hope they look better next time.

Pahahah! Really? You make them too short? I never noticed but it's pretty funny how our problems are kind of mirrored. <3

The fingers should be more flexed? You mean pointing-- *tries to mimic the pose* --downwards more? Or more toward the right of the image? Or, like, around the part he's actually holding? Sorry but I want to make sure I understand seeing as I'll be referring back to these comments for my next pic.

lol I really love this he looks great !!!
Loving his stripy trousers !
I don't really want to critique but since you ask specifically: if you're going for realistic anatomy yes the arm length is a little long as others have said, the torso is a little long too and I would thicken out the rib cage a bit next time. To avoid flat or stiff looking figures, try drawing them at a 3 quarter angle, with the shoulders turned like one further in front than the other not flat on. Hmm that's confusing I'll stop now, anyway great work !!

I understand what you're saying. I'll watch arm and torso length the next time I draw someone. I'll also avoid making his body straight and ribcageless. I won't draw him [or anyone] flat on the page anymore, I'll see how drawing someone at an angle works out for me.

Thank you so much for the critique! I really appreciate it!

Sorry for my [extremely] late reply, I haven't been crazy-active with DA lately.
